The brooches pictured belong to a series of over 100, made for The Campaign for Objects in Purgatory. They were given to contributors to the Objects in Purgatory exhibition (Sheffield Institute of Arts Gallery 2011) in exchange for contributing their story or drawing of an uncherished gift. The project has been initiated and developed by designer Julia Keyte.

Society is ageing and as the population ages, strength, finger manipulation (dexterity) and our ability to see and understand the world around us (visual acuity and cognition) all naturally decline.

This project builds upon a pilot project 'design and rehabilitation' undertaken by the Lab4Living team supported by the Silvia Adams Trust and the Royal Society of Arts

This work is part of a larger study to understand how we can measure dexterity more effectively and how it relates to everyday tasks such as bathing, dressing and in this case accessing packaged food

The Repository of Irrational Gestures proposes and tests the notion that moving image work and sonic composition can critically investigate and illuminate the turbulent but permeable boundaries that differentiate between ‘rational’ and ‘irrational’ actions, thinking and/or behaviours.

The process of making work is like a large-scale act of reverse engineering, attempting to unpack aspects of social life and especially values. An example of this was the work Transfer, made in response to Manchester Royal infirmary.

Arrivals and Departures is an exhibition exploring dual perspectives of Hong Kong – the city and its urban life.

This research investigates what factors are particular to research in the area of the design history of recent technologies, and asks how those factors might be mitigated.

This enquiry resulted in the design of a new tool to assist healthcare workers in the daily production of bleach dilutions for disinfecting patients, work surfaces and personal protective equipment contaminated with the virulent Ebola Virus Disease.

As a way of introducing the various media and methods employed in my art practice and research, this selection of foundational works are assembled to provide a context for my current art practice and research.
