See Hallam student Emily’s top tips on what to pack to help you settle in to your uni halls:
- An extension lead - you’ll use this more than you realise. It will come in handy for charging your devices.
- Print out some pictures - photos of friends and family or even your favourite quotes to make your room feel more homely.
- Headphones - these are great for your commute to uni, relaxing in your room and in the library.
- A washing basket with handles - this will make your life so much easier when carrying your laundry to and from the laundry room.
- A warm coat - this is essential as it starts to get colder in Sheffield, to keep you warm when walking to and from uni. If it’s waterproof that’s even better!
- Slip on shoes - sliders or slippers are a must. I practically live in my Crocs! Quickly popping them on to do the bins or laundry makes your life so much easier.
- Command hooks - avoid using Blu Tac to stick anything up if you don’t have a pin board and use these instead. It saves you from marking the walls and losing your deposit.
- Comfy clothes - although your going-out outfits are probably more important to you, don’t forget your comfy clothes! Bring your hoodies / joggers / dressing gown.
- A pack of cards - you can use these to play countless games with your flatmates.
