‘I'm using skills I learnt on my course in my role as a web developer.'

Niall Hogan studies BENG (Hons) Software Engineering with us and has been on placement with technology-driven language and market specialists, Guildhawk in Sheffield.

When I was researching for my interview I got the sense that it wasn't like a large multinational corporation, but a smaller, independent company with a global reach. There seemed to be a personality to the way the company presented itself.’

‘They are also experts in the field of AI-powered translation, and I have an interest in languages and language learning. I was interested in specialising in front-end web development, and the tech stack they were using fitted my needs perfectly.’

‘My day-to-day role is a front-end developer. My daily tasks are chosen from a project management system that manages our workflow and could consist of making forms or full pages, to writing services and manipulating data retrieved from the back-end.’

Niall is currently involved in a project developing a sophisticated project management system and he may even get involved with a software-as-a-service (SAAS) project too.

‘I believe I am using my skills I learnt on my course by applying them practically to the challenges and problems I face in each working day.’

‘Guildhawk have given me a seemingly unlimited amount of support. My skills and confidence within this profession have increased tenfold.

‘I have also enjoyed social events both in Sheffield and London, including a big music premiere the company helped produce with an orchestra.’

‘After I have finished my degree I will continue my journey to become a professional front-end developer, hopefully with Guildhawk.’
