After deciding to change his career, John Reeves is training to be a paramedic on our BSc Paramedic Science.

'I worked for a few years in business and retail before deciding I wanted to work in the community and make a difference, so I applied for the paramedic practice course.

'Half of the course is spent on placement. Each day on the road is different – you can go from a cardiac arrest on one job to managing a simple social care incident on the next. It’s incredibly fulfilling, especially when you see the difference you can make in people’s lives.

'I’ve had fantastic opportunities on the course, including working with the air ambulance and other fire and rescue services. The staff and mentors are extremely supportive and have a wealth of knowledge and experience. So far it’s been physically and mentally demanding, but really enjoyable and rewarding.'
