'I've designed and animated TV shows for CBeebies.'

Still animation of a cartoon dog.

Heather secured her first graduate role as a 2D Animator and Designer at Flix Facilities designing characters for popular shows on channels like CBeebies.

She chose to study BA Animation after noticing the real passion of the tutors at our open day and warming to Sheffield's artistic culture.

‘Sheffield a really unique and artistic place that felt like both a town and a city, and that made me feel really comfortable moving from a smaller town.’

‘The course offered the chance to try out 2D, 3D and stop-motion animation or a mix of them to see what you liked best. We also got the chance to show our final film project at a local cinema, it was nerve-wracking but I’m glad I did it!’

In addition to passionate teachers, there is a dedicated equipment centre for you to borrow all the books and equipment you’ll need for the course and your own independent learning.

‘The tutors are the most supportive ones you could ever find. They’re so dedicated to animation, the course and its students, they genuinely care about your learning and are continually trying to improve the course.’

‘I have designed and animated for both The Baby Club and Let’s Go For a Walk which are aired on CBeebies. However, I’m most proud of my work on Dog Loves Books where I got my first credit, and it’s been a very successful show on CBeebies.’

Alongside her academic study, Heather took the opportunity to network and gain better understanding of the industry by volunteering at the Children’s Media Conference held at venues in and around the university every summer.

‘My advice for new students is to make use of feedback sessions, because that’s where you learn the most, push yourself out of your comfort zone a little, and make use of the university’s equipment.

‘When you graduate, you still have access to the university’s job listing site, so make use of that too! When you apply to jobs, make sure you chase them up to show you’re interested, and stay up-to-date with the industry by going to animation socials and film festivals (and get ahead by doing this while you’re still at uni).’
