“Sheffield Hallam helped me to improve patient care.”
Dan studied BSc (Honours) Psychology at Sheffield Hallam and he now works as a clinical trials assistant at the NHS.
What I do
“I’m a clinical trials assistant for the NHS. I help run clinical research to discover new ways of treating patients.
“I’m currently testing a new tool for diagnosing why people have lost consciousness. This could increase the speed at which patients receive the right treatment. My work contributes greatly to society, and I find that highly rewarding.
How Hallam helped me
“The hands-on experience of conducting clinical research on my course meant I could jump straight into my current job with an understanding of how to conduct research in line with standard regulatory procedures — knowledge that’s critical to this line of work.
“Ultimately, I think the best thing Sheffield Hallam gave me was freedom. I had the freedom to take projects and essays and put my own spin on them. This gave me the drive to learn even more and the confidence to stray outside my comfort zone and tackle unfamiliar problems. I cannot compliment the staff at Sheffield Hallam enough for how supportive they were.
“My time at Sheffield Hallam and in my current role have made one thing very clear — I want to pursue a career in clinical research in neuroscience, which is strange considering I wasn't sure what I wanted to do before I started my degree!”
