'One of the best decisions I made was to study Early Childhood Studies.'
BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies mature student Dale Williams had always had a keen interest in early education, having previously studied Education and Social Sciences combined with Theology Studies in London, but he knew his heart was more aligned with supporting young children and their families.
Dale visited the University on an open day and attended a talk about the course. The lecturer inspired Dale with their passion and enthusiasm and he knew from that moment that this was the course for him.
"I was fortunate to have encouraging, supportive, creative, and inspiring nursery and primary school teachers who I remember to this present day and reflecting on these cherished memories instilled excitement in my decision and I could not wait to get started!”
Throughout the course, Dale developed his understanding of how young children experience health, education and social issues on a global scale.
Dale chose an elective module in his third year, which allowed him to explore therapeutic approaches in the play behaviour of children through work placements.
The expertise of the tutors and support he received on the course stimulated his desire for learning and elevated his passions in child development.
"I class myself as extremely lucky to have met such passionate and engaging lecturers. They truly transformed and elevated my university experiences, inspiring me to start my career in play therapy."
In 2021, Dale was awarded both the Professor Perry Else Prize (awarded across Education, Childhood and Inclusion for demonstrating outstanding commitment to supporting and inspiring others within the university and/or their placement) and won the Inspiring Individual Award. His works has also been published in the Early Years Educator (EYE) magazine.
