'We helped build the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre.'
Students on our construction courses have been working with BAM Construction as project managers on Sheffield Hallam's new Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre.
The centre is a major build, developed with £14m funding from the Department of Health and Social Care. For students, it's a chance to work on a real building site, gaining valuable industry experience on a high-profile project.
'For inexperienced students it's good to see the realistic process of a building site. You can't learn half the stuff in the classroom that you can visually see here, and that was a big benefit.'
- Dana Merrill, BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management
A world-leading research centre
The Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) will provide space for world-leading research on health and physical activity. It will feature a 7.5m high indoor laboratory with cameras and tracking instruments, a biomechanics laboratory, diagnostic equipment, a technology demonstrator hub and integrated NHS clinics.
