‘It’s great to be part of that mixed international environment.'

Girl stood in front of Sheffield city cityscape.

After studying foreign languages and linguistics in her home country, Russia, Zhanna found a warm welcome and a wealth of support at Sheffield – not only in her studies, but also in a diverse range of extracurricular activities and opportunities.

‘I was looking for a masters degree in sport management and I found it here at Sheffield Hallam. I really liked the MSc Sport Business Management course because it covers all the knowledge you need to work in the sports sector. I also found out that Sheffield is a safe student city, so I decided to come here.’

‘It was my first time studying abroad, but the International Experience Team helped me with things like registration and finding accommodation. They encourage you to take every opportunity and integrate into university life, which is really helpful when everything is new to you. I also used the academic skills centre to improve my critical writing, as well as the university’s English language scheme and the Careers Connect service.’

‘As a student ambassador for the International Career Enhancement (ICE) club, I’m able to help other international students so they don’t feel scared when they arrive. I also participate in the Culture Connect scheme as a mentor for an international student, which has been a great experience.’

‘I’m currently doing my placement at the International Federation for Athletes with Intellectual Impairments. It’s a remote working placement which is a little challenging, but it’s helping me improve my time management skills and I’m looking forward to gaining new experiences and networking opportunities. Our academic and hosting organisation advisers are always on-hand to help too.’

‘I’m making the most of every opportunity at Sheffield Hallam, whether it’s a workshop or training, and that’s what I really appreciate about the university – it’s a positive, diverse place to be and it really motivates its students to stand out and be successful.’
