'I didn’t know my housemates before, but it’s a really nice dynamic'
Phoebe Hares is studying MSc Psychology.
‘I didn’t want to stay in halls, or live by myself.
‘I stay in a shared house that I found online – it’s in a great location, of a decent size and is really nice. I didn’t know all of my housemates before moving in, but it turned out they had lived with a friend of mine previously.
‘It’s important to find people who you get on with before you settle on a house – me and my friend lived somewhere else in Sheffield for a month before moving to our current one. The move was worth it as we found a really nice place.
‘We have a really nice house dynamic – there’s mutual respect, which is important when you’re studying.
‘My advice would be to plan, know what you’re looking for and stay on top of things. I had some criteria before I started looking – I had friends who lived in Sheffield, and wanted to be in the same area as them.
‘You’ll be staying for at least a year – don’t just go for whatever’s easiest!’
