International MA Design Product student Jyoti has made use of the range of facilities and collaborative approach at Hallam to develop his skills on the course. 

“Sheffield Hallam is unique in how they offer my course at masters level. My tutors encourage me to explore different aspects of design which is great because I’ve learned a lot of valuable skills. We have combined lectures during the course which allows you to explore and collaborate with students from other disciplines and learn from them, this is a great way to network. The course is very diverse – you can explore so many options, from jewellery making to fine art, and the tutors are really skillful and knowledgeable too.” 

“The guest lecturers are really eye-opening because you’re introduced to lots of different career paths and you gain valuable industry connections for after you graduate. I meet with my academic adviser regularly, who’s helped me prepare for my future career. The Handshake app is also really helpful, it’s helped me find job opportunities related to my field.”

Jyoti had the opportunity to show his portfolio to one of his dream employers during his course thanks to the industry connections Sheffield Hallam has with global businesses. 

“When I graduate I’d like to go into industrial design or work in the games industry. EA Games is a company I’d love to work for and in my first year at university I got the opportunity to speak to them when they visited. I showed my portfolio to the recruiting head of the company who gave me some really valuable feedback. It was such an amazing opportunity to help build my future career.” 

Jyoti loves how Sheffield has a real city vibe and settled into university life quickly with the help of the international team at Hallam. 

“People in Sheffield are really friendly which meant I made friends very quickly. Sheffield Hallam organises a lot of events for international students, which helped me to meet new people. Plus, the international meet and greet event made us feel really welcome right from the start. Overall, student life is great here because Sheffield is student centric and everything is nearby. The transport systems are really accessible too which is handy.”
