Why Sheffield Hallam?

We’re one of the country's biggest providers of teacher training, supporting over 1,000 new teachers every year and training a quarter of all new teachers in the Yorkshire region.

Here’s why so many students come to us.

Our teacher training is 'Outstanding'

Sheffield Institute of Education (SIoE) at Sheffield Hallam recently received an 'Outstanding' rating for both our Early Years Teacher Status and our primary teacher training. We also received 'Good' grades for our secondary and further education provisions.

Real-world learning

We pride ourselves on the applied nature of your learning and the quality of our teaching. The recent Ofsted report praised the quality and level of knowledge of our trainees upon completion of their studies and the high regard they are held in by our partners in the region.

Learning that pays

Becoming a teacher is a truly rewarding experience, and it makes great financial sense too. Many of our teaching courses offer bursaries and scholarships worth up to £29,000. And as a qualified teacher, you’ll earn a minimum starting salary of £28,000 (March 2023).

Your training. Your way.

You may be looking to study full-time, or you might be looking for a more flexible route into teaching. We offer a range of part-time and employment-based courses so you can fit study around work and family commitments.

We also guarantee all Sheffield Hallam graduates who meet our entry requirements an interview for our teacher training courses. And if you’re not yet eligible, we’ll provide advice to help you take the next step.

Choose your placement

We offer one of the largest and most diverse ranges of placements in the region. Our network consists of over 600 partner schools, colleges and other educational establishments for you to choose from.

Dedicated support

We offer tailored support to all our students, helping you to develop your unique teaching style while you’re on placement. This includes specialist advice from our university tutors and trained mentors while you’re with us, and access to careers advisers, events and networks once you’ve graduated.
