First Contact Practitioner 1: Advanced MSK Practice
Who the course is aimed at
This module is aimed at Physiotherapists specialising in musculoskeletal conditions particularly working within an advanced practice role within Primary Care settings.
Benefits of taking the course to the individual, the organisation and the patient
The aim of this module is to facilitate you in the development of complex reasoning and decision-making skills in advanced musculoskeletal practice. This will include the development of personalised care approaches with advanced interpersonal abilities, holistic and critical assessment, investigation and diagnostic skills to offer client focused prevention, intervention and management of complex conditions. You will develop many personal attributes that underpin the 14 capabilities of the KSA’s detailed in the HEE FCP roadmap to practice with particular focus on critical evaluation of evidence based practice, service and personal development.
What you learn
What you learn will be supported by face to face teaching sessions including workshops and practical sessions. In order to prepare for the teaching sessions, learning materials and specific tasks will be delivered via distance learning.
Demonstrate the ability to apply a personalised care approach with the advanced use of interpersonal and communication skills in the effective application of practical skills for assessment, diagnosis and management of individuals with MSK conditions.
Demonstrate an advanced level of critical understanding, clinical reasoning and practical skills in the assessment, investigation and diagnosis of complex MSK presentations within a patient centred approach.
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and critical evaluation of evidenced based condition management and prevention through multiple and inter-related interventions alongside collaborative MDT working.
Demonstrate professional progression and wider service development with application of critical evidence, clinical guidelines and patient preferences to manage MSK conditions through self-awareness of your ability to lead, influence, and negotiate with others.
A prior knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system is expected. The indicative module contents map to the FCP KSA framework (HEE MSK roadmap to practice) however requires considerable experience and application to practice from the student to successfully complete the module.
Skills gained for the workplace
You will be able to pass on your gained knowledge to others, improving overall effectiveness and patient outcome.
