“Apprenticeships can be a great opportunity for everyone, there’s always something new to learn.”
Sarah is a Product Developer at Morrisons, She has recently completed our Food Industry Technical Professional degree apprenticeship.
“I chose to apply for the apprenticeship because it allowed me to further my career within the food industry, particularly product development, and offered me new skills and opportunities.
“I’ve worked as a product developer throughout my apprenticeship journey, with two different retailers. My responsibilities lie within new and existing product development, managing product quality, and keeping up-to-date with new and emerging trends.
“This degree apprenticeship has given me a broader understanding of the food industry and helped me see the bigger picture from a technical perspective too.”
“Whilst studying my apprenticeship, I’ve worked with suppliers to improve quality, reduce product costs, and improve manufacturing processes. The apprenticeship encourages teamwork and collaboration which supports the organisation and my overall performance.
“This has enabled me to network and broaden my professional relationships across the business while developing the necessary skills for my modules and assignments. It’s also helped build my confidence. I now have the foundation knowledge of food science that aids my understanding of products and processes.
“Apprenticeships can be a great opportunity for everyone. There’s always something new to learn even when you’ve been doing the job for a while. I believe they are great opportunities to better yourself, meet and engage with others, and learn something new – all while working full-time.
“I don’t have a set path for my future career other than the aspiration to keep on learning and enjoying what I do. When that stops happening, it’s time to move on to the next thing.
“I enjoy the fast pace and life in retail but wouldn't rule out a future move into the supply base. Time will tell!”
