Extra support for your degree apprenticeship application

Thinking about applying for an apprenticeship?

We know that applying for an apprenticeship can feel like a big step and we’re here to help. If you think you’d benefit from some extra support with your application, we’ve got you covered.

What support is available?

We’re working to make apprenticeships more accessible for everyone. If you’re from an underrepresented background, you can access additional support, including:

  • CV checks – Make sure your CV highlights your skills and experience in the best way possible.
  • Application advice – Get expert guidance to help you put together a strong application.
  • Interview tips – Learn key techniques to boost your confidence and make a great impression.

This support is here to make sure everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Who can access support?

This extra support is designed for applicants from underrepresented backgrounds who might face additional barriers when applying. If you're unsure whether this applies to you, check the eligibility criteria below or get in touch with us.

Who we support

You may be eligible for extra help if you belong to one of the following groups:

  • You’re from an area where fewer people go to university, have a lower household income or you’re from a low socioeconomic background.
  • You’re a mature student.
  • You have a disability.
  • You have been in care.
  • You are from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) background.

Wider support for apprentices

When you join Sheffield Hallam, you’ll have access to a range of specialist services to support you throughout your degree apprenticeship. These include:

  • Academic study support to help you develop key skills for your course.
  • Personal and welfare support to ensure your wellbeing throughout your studies.
  • Extensive career support to help you plan for your future.

Additional support as an apprentice

  • Your progress will be monitored by your apprenticeship course leader.
  • Your apprenticeship coach will coordinate regular apprenticeship progress reviews.
  • Your workplace mentor will attend your progress reviews and will help you to develop the knowledge skills and behaviours that you need for your apprenticeship.

 

Key roles in your apprenticeship support

  • Hallam Help – A support hub available to all students and degree apprentices.
  • Apprenticeship coach – A member of Sheffield Hallam staff who supports both you and your employer/mentor, and prepares you for your end point assessment.
  • Course leader – Oversees your subject area.
  • Module leader – Delivers the teaching for specific modules within your degree.
  • Workplace mentor – Supports you through your journey, providing guidance, tasks and workplace learning to ensure you meet the apprenticeship criteria.
