The entry requirements for postgraduate courses depend on a number of things, such as level, subject and study method.
This page outlines the basic requirements. You'll find the full requirements for your chosen course on the course detail page.
Masters taught programmes
For postgraduate taught programmes we will consider:
- a first degree,
- a professional qualification recognised as equivalent to degree standard,
- a HND or higher education diploma with substantial relevant work experience,
- a recognised pre-Masters course.
Research programmes
For postgraduate research programmes such as MPhil and PhD, you will need a masters degree from a recognised university.
At PhD level, you will usually need to submit a formal research proposal.
Language requirements for international students
Unless you come from a majority English-speaking country, or have attended English speaking schools and colleges, you will need an English language qualification for postgraduate study.
You'll also need one if you have to apply for a visa.
Our course pages give the level of English required as an IELTS score. This is a very common qualification, but we accept a range of others.
Check our English language page for more details of the English language qualifications we accept, and the scores required in each.
