Who we are 

Student Engagement, Evaluation and Research (STEER) was formed in 2015, to support the needs of students. 

We support and conduct evaluation, research and analysis of the student experience and student engagement, in ways that support the ambition to be the world’s leading applied university. 

We are part of the larger central Student Experience, Learning and Teaching (SETL) team, which includes operational support for teaching and learning, and our digital capability. 

The work of STEER is aligned to the SETL priorities which include:

• ensuring excellent performance (across the whole student lifecycle)
• providing an excellent student experience
• displaying innovation in academic practice

What we do 

STEER supports the delivery of our university strategy, Transforming Lives. 

We generate and use evidence-based research to identify and evaluate effective practices that enhance our students' engagement and experiences. This includes analysing evaluations, conducting surveys and all student engagement activities we undertake.

Our evidence-based research informs all decision-making and our approaches to student engagement to create and share knowledge and good practice.
