Sports Awards
This is an annual event, organised by Sport Hallam and the Students Sports Committee, to celebrate and recognise team and individual sporting achievements.
This year, the 2025 Sports Awards will be held on Friday 2nd of May at the Magna Science Adventure Centre. The evening promises to be a fantastic occasion to honour successes, celebrate milestones, and reflect on key sporting events such as the thrilling Varsity competition against the University of Sheffield and the prestigious British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) Championships.
Tickets are £48.00 per person, and this price includes admission to the event, transport to and from the venue, a two-course meal and a drink on arrival.

Club of the Year
This award recognises a club that has consistently demonstrated the attributes of an exceptional Sport Hallam Club: hard work, togetherness, commitment, and a passion to make a difference, in relation to sporting and non-sporting achievements.
This award recognises a club who has had a positive impact on the student experience of sport and physical activity at Sheffield Hallam, by going above and beyond in demonstrating the attributes below:

Team of the Year
This award will be given to an individual team that has performed at a high level of competition consistently throughout the year and, as a result, has achieved outstanding sporting success.
Most Improved Club of the Year
This award recognises a club that has strived to embody the attributes of an exceptional Sport Hallam Club: hard work, togetherness, commitment, and a passion to make a difference, through demonstrating substantial improvements in these areas:

Student Athlete of the Year
The Student Athlete of the Year Award recognises an individual who, alongside their academic commitments, has excelled in athletic performance in their respective sport(s), demonstrating skill, determination and consistent improvement throughout the season.
Committee of the Year
This is awarded to a committee who has displayed outstanding dedication, teamwork, leadership and organisation throughout the year. The committee will have demonstrated commitment to club development, creating a positive culture and promoting diversity and inclusivity across all club activities.
Varsity Performance of the Year
This club or individual will have displayed an outstanding Varsity performance, as well as upholding the values of the Varsity oath: Sportsmanship, Pride, Respect and Fair Play.
Sports Personality of the Year
The winner of this award is decided by the student population. This individual will have represented the University to the highest possible standard through striving to create a feeling of community and belonging within their club and showing an exceptional level of commitment to and passion for sport at Sheffield Hallam.
Danny Porter Service to Wellbeing, Sport & Physical Activity Award
In memory of our former Head of Sport, Danny Porter, this award recognises an individual or group who has overcome adversity through determination and strength of character. The individual or group will have demonstrated a remarkable sense of character to achieve, motivate and inspire.
Unsung Hero
This award celebrates an individual who has made a substantive, yet unrecognised, contribution to sport at Sheffield Hallam University and/or the wider Sheffield community. This nominee must help others participate in sport at any level on a voluntary basis.
Pippa Jones Coach of the Year
This award recognises the outstanding contribution of a coach who has made a difference to club members' performance and experience of sport at Sheffield Hallam. It recognises everyone who has a coaching role; whether they are students, volunteers or paid coaching staff.
Digital Engagement Award
This award celebrates a club who has improved awareness or engagement using digital channels. The club will have been creative in their digital engagement; whether that be a digital event, running virtual challenges, or other innovative ways they've supported students and staff digitally.
Commitment to Inclusions
This award recognises a club or individual who has promoted diversity and inclusivity in sport through running successful activities, programmes and opportunities that are accessible to all students.
Charity Impact Award
This award acknowledges a club or individual who has participated in or ran charity initiatives that have had a significant and positive impact on the University and/or the wider Sheffield community.
Hallam Award
The Hallam Award recognises students' engagement in extracurricular activities and the skills (Graduate Attributes) they develop in those activities. There are three levels to the Hallam Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold and students receive an e-certificate at each level. Any SHU student can complete the Hallam Award during their course. It is up to them how much they complete.
The Hallam Award can be added to students' CV's, LinkedIn profile and discussed in interviews to stand out to employers. Additionally, students' Hallam Award achievements will be read out during their Graduation ceremonies and their achievements get added to the Graduation booklets.
