Performance Sport

Performance Sport is the home of high performing student athletes here at Sheffield Hallam, and the ‘team behind the team’ of expert practitioners who support them.

Among our Performance Athlete Support Programme (PASP) athletes, we are very excited to be supporting Jade O'Dowda, who will be making her debut as an Olympic Athlete in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games representing Team Great Britain in the Heptathlon. Jade is supported through our Performance Athlete Support Programme (PASP), and is studying for a MA in International Relations and Global Crisis.

The Performance Athlete Support Programme (PASP)

Our Performance Athlete Support Programme allows talented student athletes to balance university life while achieving their sporting potential. Successful applicants will receive support from our multi-disciplinary team of sport practitioners, free Team Hallam Ultimate Membership, and access to our facilities. Some students may also receive a bursary and support with sport related expenses.

This programme is funded by Sheffield Hallam for full or part-time Hallam students, and applications are reviewed internally and nominated by Sport Hallam.

The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS)

The TASS programme helps athletes to balance sport within the rest of their lives. At Sport Hallam we are delighted to continue our relationship with TASS as one of their Delivery Sites, where we work together to bring the best out of our country’s most exciting sporting talents. TASS aligns with our aim to support aspiring young athletes to develop and reach their sporting and academic goals.

TASS support more than 500 athletes in 38 Sport England sports who are all eligible to represent England and have been identified as performing at the top of the Sport England Talent Pathway. It is a Sport England funded partnership between talented athletes, delivery sites and National Governing Bodies (NGB) of sport. Selections are made by the NGB's. Please speak to your NGB on more information regarding a TASS nomination.

Academic Flexibility

Sheffield Hallam is committed to ensuring a Dual Career pathway is available to our student athletes, offering the academic flexibility and support needed to fulfil their potential in both sport and education. Our TASS Dual Careers Accreditation demonstrates the university’s ability to foster elite athletes in education, by continually delivering high-quality support, learning and outcomes for our student athletes.

Academic Flexibility is in place to support student athletes to manage their studies alongside their additional sporting commitments and needs. This could include support such as extra consideration when arranging timetables, deadline extensions, or taking a break in their studies.

Applications for Academic Flexibility will require information regarding your academic and sporting information, as well as a reference from your coach so please allow time to submit a complete application. Applications for Academic Flexibility are open to high performing Hallam student athletes at any point within the academic year.
