A Grounded Theory of expert coaches' Experiential Model of the Fast Bowling Technique

For his Professional Doctorate, Harvey is looking to discover whether expert fast bowling coaches have a model or theory about the fast bowling technique and, if so, what it is and where it comes from. Through a previous study of the empirical literature, Harvey demonstrated that there was no clear model of the ideal fast bowling technique in cricket. Without an evidence-based model, Harvey is looking to uncover what expert fast bowling coaches use to help them coach fast bowling, with a particular emphasis on the technical aspects of the bowling action. It is thought that experts’ experiential knowledge is a valuable source, and will add further to the knowledge within the field.

Harvey is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Coaching & PE at Sheffield Hallam University, teaching on both Post graduate and Undergraduate coaching programmes. He has a BSc (Hons) in PE & Sport Science from Loughborough, an MSc in Sport & Exercise Science and attended a PG Cert in Sport & Exercise Biomechanics (as part of CPD). Harvey is also a Coach Educator for the ECB, a Level 3 coach, and has worked Internationally as the National Coach of the Isle of man, and consulted to the Sri Lankan National Development Squad, the Punjab Cricket Association, and spent 7 years working with the Leeds Bradford MCCU. Harvey has also played First Class Cricket.

In his spare time, Harvey still plays cricket, as well as competing in Muay Thai Boxing and Boxing, but it is as a father of two children that he enjoys spending most of his time.
