Emma Anderson
Emma is a PhD student with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and CSER. After graduating from Loughborough University in 2010 with an undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Science and a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Emma became a Performance Scientist at the LTA, working with an inter-disciplinary team to improve performance in junior and senior elite players. Her experiences as a practitioner led to the development of her PhD research project, entitled ‘Measurement of representative learning design in tennis’, which she left the LTA to pursue in January 2016.
Through her mixed-methods PhD, Emma aims to measure representative tennis player movement during training and match play, and understand elite tennis coach approaches to task design and training. Emma hopes that this research can be used to inform and improve the periodisation and specificity of training for British tennis players.
