Sport England’s Secondary Teacher Training Programme is aimed at improving the PE, school sport and physical activity experience of student’s in England’s secondary schools by using a locally driven approach to develop interventions and create the right environment to increase young people’s enjoyment and understanding.

Our Sport and Human Performance team and colleagues in SIRG have worked closely with the STT consortium which includes the Youth Sport Trust, Association for PE, Activity Alliance and the Teaching School’s Council to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme and impact of the £13.5m investment.

To date, we have surveyed over 100,000 secondary students, 15,000 secondary school staff and held focus groups and interviews with students, teachers and school leaders across England.
