The Sport and Human Performance Research Group has its roots in the University's Centre for Sport and Exercise Science, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research and consultancy in physical activity for health, performance and wellness. Our cutting-edge facilities provide the ideal environment in which to deliver this work.
Our focus on human performance is categorised into our four key themes:
- children and young people,
- human performance and athlete wellbeing,
- pedagogical science, and
- sport and performance cultures.
This allows collaboration between experts from areas as diverse as sport biomechanics, coaching science and sociology.
Our research themes draw on the expertise and experience of staff across all four sport research groups in the Sport and Physical Activity Research Centre, the wider Department of Sport and Physical Activity and the four University research institutes.
The Sport and Human Performance Research Group works with industry and academic partners to produce high quality sport and exercise science research that advances the understanding of sport and human performance and underpins our applied scientific support offer.
Our vision is to establish a leading profile in applied research, consultancy, and education.
Our mission is to understand and optimise human performance through scientific enquiry.
The Sport and Human Performance Research Group adopts a science-practitioner model to ensure evidenced-based practice for our work with athletes and coaches across youth and elite levels of sport as well as business settings. Across sport science and coaching, we have leading researchers and accredited practitioners in sport and exercise biomechanics, psychology, skill acquisition, sociology, strength and conditioning, physiology, and nutrition.
