We are looking for speech and language therapists to carry out assessments with 5-6 year olds as part of the evaluation of a language support programme.  These assessments will be conducted in schools across England. We are inviting applications from SLTs around the country who are able to travel to schools taking part in the study and available to work during school hours.

Sheffield Hallam University require speech and language therapists (SLTs) to carry out assessments with 5-6 year olds as part of the evaluation of a language support programme.  These assessments will be conducted in schools across England. We are inviting applications from SLTs around the country who are able to travel to schools taking part in the study and available to work during school hours.

 

Key dates

Attending a half day briefing/training session at Sheffield Hallam University on either Thursday 18th Wednesday 24th April. (paid)
Administering assessments at schools between 3 June and 19 July 2024. 

 

Duties

Attend the briefing/training event.
Working with the University and individual schools regarding scheduling.
Administer and score the Renfrew Action Picture Test and two subtests from CELF-5 to all pupils in the participating class at each school during the assessment period. (Materials will be supplied)
Input children’s scores at the end of each assessment and return the completed booklets.

 

Pay and travel

We will:  
Employ you as a casual worker on PAYE basis (we will process tax and National Insurance).
Ask you to submit a timesheet to show the hours you have worked.
Pay you £28.05 per hour (which includes holiday pay) for testing children and inputting the scores into a spreadsheet. 
Pay car mileage up to 10,000 miles at 45p per mile and 25p per mile thereafter. This is for travel to/from schools (you will not be paid for time spent travelling to/from schools).
Pay your accommodation costs if you are travelling from outside of the school region.
Arrange train travel where appropriate.

 

Experience and availability

 

Essential criteria

Experience of working with, and conducting assessments with, children of primary school age.
Current RCSLT and HCPC registration.
Ability to visit schools for the whole of the school day. 
Access to a private vehicle or willing to travel to study locations. 

 

Desirable criteria

Experience of using the Renfrew Action Picture Test and CELF with 5-6-year olds. 
Willing to stay in hotels for one or more nights where required.

 

Availability

A minimum of four days during the testing period (3 June and 19 July 2024) to work during school hours (0900-1530 unless otherwise stated). It may be that multiple visits are required to a school to complete the assessments.
Attend half day briefing session (paid) in person at Sheffield Hallam University on either Wednesday 18th or Thursday 24th April.

You must be willing to apply for a DBS certificate (we will cover the cost).

You must also have business insurance for any car used while working for the University.

The University is legally responsible for ensuring that all employees, are eligible to work in the UK.  ID documents must be shown in person to Human Resources as part of DBS and Employment checks. This can be done when attending the training in April.
