Inaugural Professorial Lecture - Professor Christoph Zellweger
Event listing Inaugural Professorial Lecture - Professor Christoph Zellweger, Sheffield Hallam University.
Christoph Zellweger
Currently I have no regular teaching responsibilities at SHU but I continue to run short experimental workshops in many leading European Universities and Design & Art Academies every year. I see this as a way to disseminate research findings, and fine-tune questions alongside other professionals and students.
Professor Christoph Zellweger's new exhibition 'Domesticated' opens at Marsden Woo Gallery
Street furniture to keep you fit and playground facilities for all ages have become familiar sites in many urban public spaces. In his forthcoming solo show, Domesticated, Christoph Zellweger presents new work that reflects on omnipresent social engagement in practices of self-improvement
Šperk Stret´14 Conference
Christoph Zellweger has been invited to give a lecture at this year's Šperk Stret 2014 conference in October where he will be presenting 'What's up with jewellery / news from the edge'. The 6th international conference of contemporary jewellery in Bratislava Šperk Stret´14 follows a running tradition. The aim is to encourage a search across disciplines for new inspiration and offers a forum for dialogue and discussion.
Foreign Bodies
The monograph, published and distributed internationally by ACTAR Publishers, targets academic and non-academic audiences concerned with hybrid practices in the arts, applied art and design. The publication contextualises and sets out Zellweger's research and work in different media and includes images of finished works, works in progress and in context.
Incredibles - Off-Space exhibition
Under the heading INCREDIBLES Zellweger explores the uncanny but also spectacular side of medical body modification and toys with its psychological implications; the lengthening of limbs (phantom limbs), improved performance (plug-ins & add-ons), impossible body parts, optional aesthetics, variations and choice (from the INCREDIBLES series).
Rituals of Self Design
In the quest for an optimised body that incarnates beauty, wealth, health, and success, a growing number of individuals across social sectors are engaging in practices of body modification. With the advances in medical research and the popularisation of surgery, the body becomes a luxury item, a malleable design matter, which can be sculpted, sucked, lifted and invested into.
