The Materials and Engineering Research Institute at Sheffield Hallam University held its fifth Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Day and Networking Dinner on Thursday 21 May 2015

In this project, supported by funding from Arts Council, ACJ, and The Goldsmiths Company Maria Hanson and Chris Knight have investigated the role contemporary artefacts have within both identified rites of social passage and ritual acts found within domestic contexts.

For a number of years now, I have been considering the impact of new and emerging technologies in computer aided design and direct digital manufacture. The implications are incredible. Post Industrial Manufacturing will change the very nature of design, the way we teach design, and the relationship of consumers to products.

Excessories was an exhibition which confronts creative misunderstandings with the Art and Design Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University.

Currently I have no regular teaching responsibilities at SHU but I continue to run short experimental workshops in many leading European Universities and Design & Art Academies every year. I see this as a way to disseminate research findings, and fine-tune questions alongside other professionals and students.

Current techniques for depositing decorative and/or protective metal coatings onto metal substrates either involve 'wet' methods, thermal spraying or commercial PVD. Wet methods such as electroplating are used to deposit metals such as platinum, nickel and chromium

The monograph, published and distributed internationally by ACTAR Publishers, targets academic and non-academic audiences concerned with hybrid practices in the arts, applied art and design. The publication contextualises and sets out Zellweger's research and work in different media and includes images of finished works, works in progress and in context.

The Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) held its 25th Anniversary Dinner on Thursday10 September 2015, celebrating a quarter of a century of research and development excellence. Our attendees received a unique memento for the evening's celebration.
