Planning permission has been granted for Sheffield Hallam University's new home for the National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering.

The first cohort of food engineering students are celebrating today after graduating from Sheffield Hallam University.

Baker Perkins is a leading Anglo-American manufacturer of food equipment and technology. Will Smith was a third-year undergraduate on the MEng Food Engineering degree when he was placed with Baker Perkins for his industrial placement year. Based in the Innovation Centre in Peterborough, Will was tasked with helping out the innovation team look at the next generation of bakery mixing technology.

Over the course of the academic year food engineering students are invited to attend a series of fortnightly lectures delivered by engineering specialists and industry leaders from our partners.

Working with our students gives you the opportunity to develop your future talent and ensure that students leave Sheffield Hallam with the knowledge and skills they need to make a difference in the food and drink industry.

The new multi-million pound cutting-edge facility, designed to improve current food engineering processes, address the sector skills gap, and boost the competitiveness of the country's largest manufacturing sector, was officially opened by Sheffield City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis MBE MP.
