Research and consultancy

The Voluntary Action Research Group conduct a wide variety of research with a range of research partners, funders, and clients.

Using contemporary research methods, and upholding the highest of ethical research standards, our research seeks to aid local, national, and international voluntary organisations and actors understand and demonstrate the impact of their work. We also use theoretical and conceptual tools to offer critical commentary on policy developments, and we seek to make links between trends in voluntary action in Sheffield and South Yorkshire to national and global changes and challenges.

Current and recent partner organisations and clients with whom VARG members have worked include:

  • National Lottery Community Fund
  • Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales
  • Power to Change
  • Economic and Social Research Council
  • Centre for Ageing Better
  • Big Society Capital
  • Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.

Please explore the website and contact group members if you would like to discuss specific research projects, potential consultancy work, or the sharing of research findings.
