Drawing as Post Performance Documentation
The Imposter Series is an ongoing project of observational still life drawings taken from objects/artefacts/props used in Yuen Fong Ling’s performance-workshops. Both charcoal and chalk drawings onto photocopy prints on paper, made in the studio, these works explore posthumously the event of performance. A transferal of the participating-artist’s initial gesture, he subjects the objects to the same observational scrutiny he would have received during the life class.
The Imposter series alludes to the human form by suggesting playful and clumsy constructed portraiture and self-portraiture using found objects, art equipment, lay-persons, stand-ins, simulations, approximations, and representations of the absent body.
