What we do

Community and connections

The Culture and Creativity Research Institute is Sheffield Hallam University's largest and highest rated community of researchers. It continues the work of the former Cultural, Communication and Computing Research Institute, a large majority of whose work was recognised in the 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) as being world leading and internationally significant.

The institute is all about making connections, bringing together specialisms in art, design, media production, communication studies, computing and engineering into the University's largest community of researchers.

Business and innovation

The Culture and Creativity Research Institute provides a business-focused consultancy and research service in communications and computing to businesses through our dedicated Knowledge Transfer team.

The institute is also home to Design Futures, a discrete unit delivering packaging and product design research to industry. Design Futures has a proven track record as innovators being cited as inventors or contributors to a portfolio of intellectual property, it has accrued a number of design awards. Design Futures contributes significantly to the research delivery of the institute.

Research clusters

Core specialist research clusters with the institute include Lab4Living and CENTRIC. The institute is housed in the landmark Cantor building and Sheffield Institute of Arts Gallery. The gallery has an exciting programme of events and exhibitions running throughout the year.
