Us Between Us is a groundbreaking collective exhibition that brings together art, science, and cultural heritage to address climate change and sustainability.

The exhibition, taking place in Bucharest, Romania, showcases works by 13 talented artists, offering a unique perspective on how to build a more nature-friendly future.

The JustHeat project, led by Aimee Ambrose, Professor of Energy Policy at Sheffield Hallam University, forms a major part of the exhibition.

The project aims to understand how major changes to home heating and heating technology over the last 70 years have been designed, managed and experienced and how they are connected to identities, relationships and communities. The aim is to learn lessons for a humane transition to low carbon heating.

Artists appointed in each country, including lead artist Professor Becky Shaw (Birmingham City University) have built exhibitions to show how heating has affected daily lives in different ways across time and place and to start public conversations about a fair and progressive low carbon future for heating.

Professor Ambrose said: “After two years of work gathering nearly 200 oral histories of home heating across the UK, Romania, Sweden and Finland, our team of artists are responding to the findings and key messages emerging through powerful art works. We hope they will prompt those who engage with them to think about the unfairness of past heating arrangements and the many ways in which heating impacts our everyday experiences and long-term outcomes. We hope to inspire a fairer future for home heating for people and planet.”

Us Between Us aims to inspire visitors to reconnect with nature's rhythms and reflect people’s role within the ecosystem. The exhibition emphasises sustainability, utilising eco-friendly materials and minimising resource consumption.

The exhibition runs until August 4.
