Cohesion Sheffield is the ‘backbone’ organisation set up to enable partners to work towards commitments and actions for a cohesive city. It exists as collaboration between partners and is supported across all sectors - private, public, voluntary and faith.
The network exists to help make Sheffield a cohesive and economically vibrant city where everyone feels valued and treated with dignity and respect.
By joining the Cohesion Network, the University commits to promoting inclusive behaviour with and through the workforce, and prevent or deal with issues that affect cohesion in a positive way both within the organisation and in its interaction with the rest of Sheffield and beyond.
Joining Cohesion Sheffield is part of Sheffield Hallam University’s wider civic commitment to Sheffield and the city region. Last year the University signed a Civic University Agreement, pledging to put the economy and quality of life in the local community top of its list of priorities.
It has also been chosen to host the Civic University Network a new hub to bring together universities to develop a joint approach to better support their local communities socially and economically.
Dr Sally Jackson, Chief People Officer at Sheffield Hallam University, said: “We are delighted to be joining Cohesion Sheffield as this network supports our determination to foster work on privation and inclusion within Sheffield. Making our City a place where everyone feels welcome and valued and where everyone is treated with dignity and respect is a vision that we endorse.”
Dr Panni Loh, Cohesion Sheffield Co-ordinator, said: “Cohesion Sheffield welcomes Sheffield Hallam University to the citywide cross sectoral Cohesion Network that works to collaborate to tackle deprivation and make the city a place where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
“We look forward to facilitating collaborations with Sheffield Hallam University and the other private, public and community, voluntary faith sector organisations as well as showcasing the cohesion work of Sheffield Hallam University.”
