The “Adventures in Networking” event, led by guest speaker and Cisco Press Author Jason Gooley attracted more than 135 attendees, including current undergraduate and postgraduate students, alumni, industry professionals, and international students from our partner universities, Reutlingen University and Chesterfield College.

One of the highlights of the event was the keynote presentation by Jason Gooley, on “Generative and Predictive AI in Networking and Cyber Security” which focused on current industry practices and future developments.

In addition to the keynote, the event featured technical sessions and workshops, including hands-on training on network programmability, routing, switching, network security. These provided participants with an opportunity to not only learn the theoretical knowledge but also enhanced their practical skills by using real equipment in specialised networking and security labs and simulated environment.

The event also created networking opportunities, where students, alumni, and industry professionals engaged in discussions about career pathways, research opportunities, and the evolving landscape of networking jobs. These interactions allowed attendees to exchange practical insights, share experiences, and explore collaborative projects.

The number of participants and the diverse backgrounds of the attendees, ranging from college students to seasoned professionals with many years of industry expertise, highlighted the critical importance of computer networking and security fields.

The event was organised by Maryam Bagheri, the internationalisation lead and Siavosh Haghighi Movahed, course leader of MSc Advanced Computer Networks, which is designed around Cisco Industry professional certifications in enterprise networking, and sponsored by CloudMyLab.

Siavosh Haghighi Movahed, course leader of MSc Advanced Computer Networks, said: “Our students were deeply inspired by Jason Gooley’s vision for the future of networking. His insights, along with hands-on sessions, empowered them to explore cutting-edge technologies in enterprise networking. This event not only demonstrated the ambition of our students but also underscored the vital role computer networking plays in shaping tomorrow’s digital world.

As Sheffield Hallam University continues its mission to be the world's leading applied university, events like this are integral to equipping our students with the skills, knowledge, and real-world experience needed to excel and lead in an ever-evolving global industry.”
