1. Students undertaking 100% online courses can choose to take breaks in study in more varied ways, due to the flexible design of the course structure.
2. Online modules are delivered in 8-week teaching blocks. Students may take a break at any point before the start of a module.
3. To arrange a break in study, you should contact your Student Support Adviser and submit a Break in Study request form.
4. Once a break in study has been arranged, your enrolment status will be suspended, and you shall not be granted access to teaching materials until you return to study.
5. A break in study may be arranged in the following scenarios:
Scenario
I want to miss one module (8 weeks)
You can do this by completing a break in study request. You do not need to provide any evidence to support this request.
I want to miss two modules (16 weeks)
As above, you should complete a break in study request. You do not need to provide any evidence to support this request.
I want to take a break for a longer period (maximum period would be 1 calendar year for the initial request)
A break in study request should be completed. If you need a break for health reasons, you must provide documentary evidence to support your request. Arrangements for your return to study will be discussed with you depending on the length of time you need to take a break.
6. Students should be aware that, in some cases, they may have to wait for up to 18 months to complete a module that has been missed due to a break in study.
7. Students who miss more than two successive modules without submitting a break in study request will normally be withdrawn for non-engagement.
8. Requests to start a break in study midway through a module will not be accepted. Requests to defer assessment attempts should be managed via the Extensions and Exceptional Circumstances Policy and Procedure.
