8. Assessments submitted after the published deadline will not be marked. Students who are unable to submit work due to Exceptional Circumstances may request an Extension up to 24 hours after the published deadline.
Where a student is submitting up to 24 hours after the deadline without an approved extension, they can notify us of any exceptional circumstances via the Extensions and Exceptional Circumstances process in My Student Record. They must do this within 24 hours of the deadline. For clarity, this applies to first attempt, reassessment (deferral and referral), retake, where extensions have been authorised and for coursework graded as Pass/Fail.
Any work submitted late without an extension in place will be recorded as a non-submission and a mark of 0 will be given. Feedback will not be provided.
Extensions cannot be requested for examinations or other timebound assessments (for example, phase tests, presentations). In these scenarios, the Self-Certification process can be used to support an Exceptional Circumstances request for a reassessment opportunity.
8.1 Exceptional Circumstances
The University recognises that there will be times when students experience unexpected and unanticipated difficulties which adversely impact on their studies and their ability to complete assessments. The Extensions and Exceptional Circumstances Policy and Procedure is intended to support these students. Module Leaders will be notified of those students who have an approved coursework extension via the Extensions and Exceptional Circumstances Policy and Procedure. Module Leaders are responsible for allocating a mark of zero to assessment submitted beyond the submission deadline date where there is not an approved extension. Extensions are applied at task level.
