Collusion vs. Collaboration

It's important to distinguish between collusion and collaboration. Collaboration is working together in pairs or as part of a group or a team. Some assignments might allow a single submission with several student authors (group work), but this might not always be permitted.

If you are asked to submit individual work, even if you have worked with others as part of the preparation, you should not share drafts or full copies of your work with other students on the course. Students naturally want to help and support others on their course, but sharing work when you are being asked to produce an individual assignment might result in an allegation of misconduct.

DO

  • Work with students in class or study groups – but make your own notes.
  • Work together to solve problems and discuss ideas but don't share things using digital files or written documents.

DON'T

  • Offer to write work for other students or allow others to copy yours.
  • Share your results or data (either with people on your course or on other courses or at other Universities)
  • Share answers for quizzes, tests or exams (if these are individual)
  • Allow others to read your completed assessments
