Due to changes in Google’s storage policy we need to reduce the amount of data we store in your Google account. From the end of April 2023, we will be applying quotas to all accounts to help manage the growth of stored data.
Google Drive quotas
For new accounts
- All users will be able to request an upgrade to their quota via the IT Service Desk. If you require more than 100 GBs of storage you will need to provide a business case and discuss your requirements with us.
For existing users
- Users with less than 45 GBs of data will have their quota set to 50 GBs.
- User with 45-92 GBs of data will have their quota set to 100 GBs.
- User with more than 92 GBs of data will have their quota set to 10% more than their existing usage.
This should mean that the applied quotas will have no immediate impact on any existing users.
Starting in June 2023 we will begin to reduce quotas for existing users in line with the policy for new users. We will try to contact any existing users who have significant storage used.
What we'd like you to do
If you currently have more than 100 GBs of data in Google, please where possible, reduce your usage below 100 GBs. You can do this by deleting files you no longer need or use. You can find which your largest files under the ‘Storage’ item.
If you’re having trouble doing this, you can contact us via IT Help.
We have added a new service request form to increase your storage. Search for Google Drive increase for individuals.
Using the form you'll need to tell us the amount of storage you require and the reason why you need to use Google Drive.
If you require more than 100 GBs we will contact you to discuss your options. We may suggest an alternative solution if one is available.
