Specific learning difficulties

If you have a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, you can access support. 

Support offered

If you have specific learning difficulties, your Disability Adviser will discuss your needs with you and provide support through a learning contract.

Learning Contract support may include:

  • teaching staff marking exams and assignments only for content, not spelling, punctuation and grammar
  • adjustments to groupwork and presentations
  • extensions on coursework for disability-related reasons

We can support you to apply for funded support, such as:

  • a study skills tutor
  • equipment and assistive software to support notetaking, reading, writing and planning.

Evidence requirements

We can accept any of the following as evidence of specific learning difficulties (SpLD) for a learning contract:

  • A diagnostic assessment report
  • access arrangements/ JCQ8 from school or college
  • an Education, Health and Care Plan that refers to SpLD
  • Access to Work report
  • a letter from previous education confirming support for SpLD
  • a copy of a report from a screening tool that shows indicators of dyslexia. You will need to pay for this yourself.
