Hiding pages from search

Hiding pages from search

There are occasions where the page you are creating or editing needs to be hidden from the view of search engines. These instances could include pages for campaigns or pages that are only relevant to a select audience, a good example is this section which is hidden from search to prevent an external audience from finding content that is not relevant.

How do I hide a page?

You can hide the page by selecting a few check boxes found in the content editor, namely:

Navigation section

  • Hide from search

SEO section

  • Hide from sitemap and search engines

Once the above options have been selected you can publish the page as normal and the page will no longer be crawled by a search engine or our websites internal search.

Optional settings

  • Hide from navigation - this will remove the page from being automatically added as a childblock to legacy template pages, it will also remove the page from the left navigation panel and mobile navigation on new templates (more information on template types).
  • Hide from breadcrumb - this will hide the page from breadcrumbs (see terminology page).

What if my page has already been found by a search engine?

If your page has already been indexed by a search engine the page will still appear for a short amount of time. This state will remain until the search engine reindexes the website which could take roughly a few days to a few weeks. If this could be problematic contact the digital experience team to discuss possibilities.
