Secondary navigation

This component is used at the top of pages to provide quick routes to sub pages.

Advanced publishers are able to customise the content that appears on the secondary navigation, this is configured in one of two ways:

  1. Local pages
  2. Global pages

Add a local page to the secondary navigation

If you have a child/sub page located under the one you're editing that you wish to be displayed on the secondary navigation:

  • Navigate to the page in the content tree
  • On the content tab scroll to the 'Navigation' section
  • Check the 'Use on Header Tab' option
  • Preview the parent page to check the sub page is now appearing on the secondary navigation
  • Publish your child/sub page

If you have a page located in a separate section to the page you're building then you can choose to use custom secondary navigation links:

  • Locate your page in the content tree which contains the secondary navigation and select it
  • On the content tab, scroll to the Navigation section
  • Check the 'Use Custom Secondary Navigation Links' option
  • Select the 'Edit' link just below

  • Save your page changes
  • Preview your page and check the items on on the secondary navigation
  • If all items are displaying on the nav as intended, publish your page

Only pages hosted on Sitecore can be selected for use on the customer secondary navigation. External links cannot e.g. https://www.hallamstudentsunion.com/

Note: Once you select 'Use Custom Secondary Navigation Links' this will replace any existing secondary menu items. You will need to manually reselect existing pages that are to remain.
