Course summary
- Develop and enhance your technical and problem solving skills in the area of logistics, with a specific emphasis on supply chain management.
- Promote contemporary best practice in the theory and application of leading edge technologies, processes and systems.
- Start your journey to Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) membership.
The course covers strategies, management, technology and systems. You learn modern approaches to supply chain management such as lean, six-sigma and operations management which are integral elements of the course. On the two-year work experience route, the course offers useful work placement opportunities.
A 1-year, non-work experience route is also offered for Logistics and Supply Chain Management - please refer to the MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management page for further details.

This course is delivered face-to-face over three semesters - teaching is scheduled based on the length of your course and the academic calendar.
Work experience is embedded midway through your course. Your dissertation module will be submitted upon completion of your placement.
Applied learning
Work Placement
You’ll have the opportunity to go on a work placement for up to 12 months, where you’ll apply academic theory and your skills in a real-world setting. This hands-on experience will enhance your professional development and help you to make informed career choices after graduation. We’ll support you to source a placement that is relevant to your course.
Throughout your placement, you’ll be supported to reflect on your experience and contribution to the organisation you work for. You'll also share your progress and achievements with your Placement Academic Supervisor as part of your final assessment.
Networking opportunities
You attend a series of guest lectures and industry visits to enhance your learning experience and to make you understand how theories and technologies are used in industry. Guest speakers include supply chain professionals from manufacturing, retail, health, food and pharmaceutical industries.

Entry requirements
All students
UK students
Normally one from:
• An honours degree 2.2 or above in science or engineering.
• An honours degree 2.2 or above in business or management, where some computing or technology focussed modules have been studied.
• Suitable professional qualifications in engineering, management or supply chain management.
• A degree in any area, plus at least one year of industrial experience in a role or organisation related to operations management, logistics or supply chain management.
• A diploma in a technological area, with at least three years of experience in a logistics or supply chain related field.
You may also be able to claim credit points which can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete your qualification at Sheffield Hallam.
If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or a recognised equivalent. If your level of English language is currently below IELTS 6.0 we recommend you consider an appropriate Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve the required level of English.

Home students
Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time study in 2024/25 is £10,310 for the course without work experience placement or £11,810 with work experience placement.
If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees.
