1. Course summary

  • Develop your technical and problem-solving skills in the area of logistics, with a specific emphasis on digital supply chain management. 
  • Promote contemporary best practice in the theory and application of leading-edge technologies, processes, and systems. 
  • Study key topics of organisational behaviour, ethics, management, and leadership. 
  • Access a route to Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) membership. 

Develop in-depth knowledge of logistics and supply chain management through this MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management course. You’ll learn a range of modern approaches to operational excellence, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), lean six-sigma, digital modelling, supply chain data analytics, and operations management.

We'll teach you how to build resilient, globally competitive supply chains through strategic sourcing and digital innovation. You'll learn how to enhance supply chain efficiency through logistics innovation, and you’ll delve into SAP-driven enterprise resource planning. 

You'll also learn how companies drive operational and organisational excellence through lean six sigma and strategic leadership in a digital era. 

Finally, we’ll look at how to optimise and analyse supply networks using advanced simulation technologies.

Applied learning

Real-life scenarios and business problems  

All modules on your course adopt forefront research and up-to-date regulations and standards. Real-life case studies and business problem scenarios are used to help prepare you for a career in logistics and supply chain management. 

Research

In the final stage of your masters, you’ll undertake a substantial research project tailored to your academic and career goals. You can address gaps in knowledge, or deliver insights and recommendations for a specific client.

This project allows you to apply and expand on the skills developed throughout your course. You’ll be guided by the module team and a dedicated supervisor from start to finish.

  • sustainable practices and innovations in modern logistics and supply chain management
  • building resilience and managing risks in global supply chains

Throughout the course there are numerous opportunities for you to engage with career planning and development, career fairs and workshops, employer presentations, field visits, and professional career advisors.  

Guest speakers

You’ll attend a series of guest lectures and industry visits to help you understand how theories and technologies are used in industry. 

Previous guest speakers have included supply chain professionals from manufacturing, retail, health, food, and pharmaceutical industries.

We’ve also hosted speakers from GXO, a global leader in contract logistics; anyLogistix, a company specialising in simulation-based supply chain analytics and optimisation; and CIPS award-winning speakers.

Work placement  

You will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement as part of the course. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career by immersing you in the industry you have been learning about. Students can develop practical skills while on placement, from overall responsibility of logistics functions to all aspects of the supply chain. 

This gives you valuable work experience to prepare you for your future career and allows you to graduate with Work Experience in your award title. 

You will be supported by placement tutors and a placement team throughout the process from application to the successful completion of the work placement. There are dedicated sessions to support you in CV writing, interview skills and job applications.  

In previous years, students have completed placements in roles such as: 

  • supply chain coordinator and analyst, 
  • logistics coordinator and analyst 
  • inventory control manager 
  • sales and operations manager, 
  • overall responsibility of logistics planning and control 
  • purchasing/procurement manager 
  • manufacturing managers.

This course prepares you for a career as:

5. Equipment and facilities

The new building of Sheffield Business School will be opened in 2025, providing state-of-art teaching and learning facilities, and social space for students.

6. Entry requirements

All students

UK students

Normally one from:

• An honours degree 2.2 or above in business or management, where some computing or technology focussed modules have been studied.

• An honours degree 2.2 or above in science or engineering.

• Suitable professional qualifications in engineering, management or supply chain management.

• A degree in any area, plus at least one year of industrial experience in a role or organisation related to operations management, logistics or supply chain management.

• A diploma in a technological area, with at least three years of experience in a logistics or supply chain related field.

You may also be able to claim credit points which can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete your qualification at Sheffield Hallam.

If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or a recognised equivalent. If your level of English language is currently below IELTS 6.0 we recommend you consider an appropriate Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve the required level of English.

Home students

Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time study in 2025/26 is £12,120 for the course. The tuition fee displayed above is for the full course. For this work experience route, your fees will be payable over two years, divided into two annual payments based on credits studied. The fee includes dedicated employability support to help you prepare for and secure work experience. It does not guarantee you a placement and if a placement is not secured the work experience fee will still be charged. If a placement is not secured you will transfer to the standard version of the course to complete your remaining credits, where the balance of your course fees will be due in year one in line with completing the course.

If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees.
