How you learn

Your teaching team are professionally qualified industry experts and/or active academic researchers who will, from the very beginning explore contemporary practice within your discipline area.  

This course is also highly practical as you will engage in real-world applied business projects at every level of your degree.  You will also be supported to gain a year-long work placement in industry.  This is to enable you to develop the skills, knowledge and experience you will need for your future as a highly skilled business manager.

Applied learning

Live Projects

In addition, you will undertake work experience at every level. In level 4 you will undertake an Applied Project working with an external organisation.  In level 5 you will develop professional employability skills whilst working in a short placement with a real employer, you will undertake an application process to secure this short placement.    These skills are augmented by a live Consultancy project at level 6, where you will liaise with a client company, and deliver outcomes to their brief. Throughout this journey you will be supported by your industry experienced tutors and the careers and employability team. 

Work Placements  

You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years.  The transformative impact this can have on your personal and professional development, can further be enhanced through the completion of Sheffield Hallam’s Applied Professional Diploma. Your course is designed to give you the knowledge, confidence, and readiness to secure and succeed in your placement.   To complement this, you have access to various support activities, resources, employer events and opportunities from your Careers and Employability Team to ensure you make the most of your work experience opportunities during your degree. 

Networking Opportunities

There are networking opportunities, where you can engage with employers via work experience, careers events, consultancy projects, trips, guest lecturers and networking with former learners from the course.  

There is regular use of guest lecturers from industry and alumni on key modules to give practical focus. This gives you effective insights into the issues facing real world companies.  

You can also take part in student competitions and will have opportunities to be nominated for an inspirational student award.   

Field Trips

We aim to offer field trips to a variety of organisations, including local small and medium sized enterprises and multinational firms with operations in the UK. This familiarises you with the types of environments in which they may be located. 


Future careers

A unique feature of the course is that it will be fully approved by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). Following validation of the course certain modules will be mapped to the ILM L5 Award in Leadership and Management. This will mean that upon successful completion you can gain associate (Assoc.) level of professional membership, preparing graduates for careers in the public, private and third sectors.

Equipment and facilities

You will engage in learning across our Extended Campus which includes flexible physical and digital spaces to support applied learning, working, teaching and collaborating. On campus the new Business School will be your home space and will include areas to meet peers, engage in course activities and meet staff and employers. 

A variety of physical small and large group teaching settings will be used. Digital learning will be used as part of, and alongside on campus learning and will include use of the Virtual Learning Environment, media such as video, synchronous online teaching and systems for collaboration.

Entry requirements

All students

UCAS points

  • 64

This must include at least 32 points from one A level or equivalent BTEC National qualifications excluding general studies For example:

  • CC at A Level
  • MPP in BTEC Extended Diploma.
  • Pass overall from a T level qualification with D or E from core
  • A combination of qualifications, which may include AS levels and EPQ.

GCSE

  • English Language at grade C or 4 or equivalent
  • Maths at grade C or 4 or equivalent

ACCESS

  • Access to HE Diploma, with at least 45 level 3 credits.

If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or equivalent. If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 6.0 we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score.

Fees and funding

Home students

Our tuition fee for UK students on full-time undergraduate degree courses in 2025/26 is £9,535 per year (capped at a maximum of 20% of this during your placement year). These fees are regulated by the UK government and therefore subject to change in future years. We are currently reviewing our tuition fees for the foundation year stage of this course following the Government announcement of fee changes for some foundation year courses and will confirm fees as soon as possible.

If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees. International students

Our tuition fee for International/EU students starting full-time study in 2025/26 is £17,155 per year. During your placement year you will pay a reduced fee of £1,200.
