What does a city regional just transition look like?

Project Director: Will Eadson
Project Duration: 2020-2021

This project seeks to consider how the idea of just transition to a low carbon economy can be understood and operationalised in a city-regional context, with a focus on Sheffield City Region. It takes a place-based approach to just transition considering different forms of social and spatial advantage and disadvantage, and varying access to participation in decision-making. The project involves three phases: (1) developing a conceptual framework for understanding just transition based on existing evidence; (2) a review of existing urban and regional policy approaches to just transition; (3) use of Q methodology, interviews and workshops with city-regional stakeholders to understand their perceptions; (4) production of a just transition principles and policy recommendations for Sheffield City Region.
