Evaluation of Age Better in Sheffield

Project Director: Chris Dayson
Project Duration: 2015-2022

Between 2015-22 CRESR was the local evaluation partner for Age Better in Sheffield (ABiS), a six-year £6 million investment by the National Lottery Community Fund to reduce isolation and loneliness amongst people aged 50 or over (people 50+) in the city between 2015-21. It was led by South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA) and delivered through coproduction with the voluntary sector, public sector, and people 50+ across Sheffield. Throughout the six years of the project the Evaluation has produced a range of outputs including:

  • The outcomes and impact of the project linked to social isolation, loneliness, wellbeing, mental health and the wider social determinants of health.
  • Deep dives into approaches to coproduction; interventions to address loneliness and isolation; and participation, access and equity for people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.
  • Peer-led community research with people aged 50+.
  • Learning case studies.
  • An exploration of the legacy and future governance of Age Friendly Sheffield.

Below, you can find links to all of the reports produced during the evaluation. Importantly, the journey doesn’t end here. In April 2022 Age Friendly Sheffield took-up the mantle from ABiS to promote Active and Healthy Ageing across the city and we look forward to working with key partners on that journey.

The project team also includes Ellen Bennett, Abi Woodward and Ben Pattison (Sheffield Hallam University).
