Project Director: Professor Chris Dayson
Project Duration: 2023-2024
Social prescribing is a way to help individuals access local non-clinical support and services in the community. Although social prescribing is community-based, it focuses on empowering individuals to identify their own needs and find solutions. Initiatives like Big Local shift the focus to empowering communities to identify their own needs and find solutions. This research project will explore how Big Local areas and others bring together principles of community development and social prescribing, in the form of community-led social prescribing. We will explore the following questions through interviews and focus groups:
- What is ‘community-led social prescribing’ and how does it differ from other models of social prescribing?
- What are the barriers and enablers to community involvement in social prescribing?
- What are the benefits of community involvement in social prescribing, from the perspective of different stakeholders?
The project team also includes Olivia Engle (National Academy for Social Prescribing) and Anthea Terry (National Academy for Social Prescribing).
