We are a leading centre for research at the highest levels of quality. We remain amongst the top ranked modern universities in our unit of assessment. We substantially increased the size of our submission since 2014 to reflect our increasing research intensity and activity, with a more diverse staff base conducting research that is world leading and internationally excellent.
In REF 2021 our submission to Unit 13 was:
- Judged as having 86 per cent of our research being world leading or internationally excellent.
- Rated in the top 10 UK universities for research impact.
- Recognised for the excellence of our research environment, taking account of our postgraduate research, income, strategies, people and facilities.
Our research has had a significant impact on the implementation of welfare policy in the UK, on addressing resource poverty and in the design of new policies to improve health outcomes through developing voluntary sector-health sector partnerships.
