The Centre for Culture, Media and Society (CCMS) is a vibrant hub for theoretical and applied research and knowledge exchange in the study of culture, media and society.
Our world class research is aligned with REF Unit of Assessment 34: Communication, Cultural and Media Studies, Library and Information Management. It includes the study of communication in all its forms: representations, practices, audiences; film and media industries; and the relationship between information and society, including digital media, gaming technologies and human-computer interactions.
We have an abiding concern with questions of power and social justice, and we research across a diverse range of genres including film and television, folklore and legend, heritage and cultural institutions, education, health and wellbeing, and social, cultural and political discourse.
Our research coheres around four core research groups:
- Digital Culture
- Cultural Heritage
- Film and Television
- Anti-Racism
Our ambition is to produce research that engages with contemporary societal issues and delivers real world impact. We seek to communicate our research in forms that are meaningful for academic, policy and lay audiences.
