Work experience is any activity, paid or unpaid, that gives you the chance to gain work-related skills and achievements. Work experience is the ideal way to gain non-academic skills, and learn how to transfer your academic learning to the workplace. On this page you’ll find advice, information and support on some of the different types of work experience you can do.
Worthwhile work experience should: teach you new skills, help you develop your personal qualities, encourage you to explore and experiment with your career ideas, teach you about the industry you are working in, connect you to people who can provide support and advice (and references).
The Hallam Award is an opportunity for you to gain even more from your work experience by giving you recognition for the things you do outside of your course, including work (where it’s not an integrated part of your course like a sandwich year).
