Handshake is our new #1 careers platform for you, our final year students. Here, you will find graduate jobs and internships from a wide range of employers both nationally and globally, as well as our career fairs and a number of events. Handshake makes it easy to find the jobs most suitable for you, and for employers to recruit you as they are actively searching for students via the platform.

Through Handshake, you can follow employers you are interested in to be the first to hear about new opportunities, and you can customise and save your job searches.

Activate your account

If you are a final year student enrolled at Sheffield Hallam city and collegiate campuses, you already have an account waiting for you in Handshake - all you need to do is activate it! You can do this by logging into Handshake via the ‘Current SHU Students login’ button.

You must use your 'firstname.surname@student.shu.ac.uk' email address when an email is requested in order to activate the account set up for you in the system

Completing your profile

Your profile is the first thing employers will see. Think about how you can write your profile to stand out and really showcase your experience and skills. To get the most out of the Handshake platform, we recommend you set your privacy settings to Community. You must ensure your Handshake profile is 100% completed.

3 Handshake profile must-haves:

• Add the type of job you are looking for
• Add the cities you want to work in
• Add the roles you want to do

80% of students who fill out their interests on Handshake are messaged by an employer, and students with a full profile are 5x as likely to be messaged by employers!

Watch the video below to learn more about what you can do on Handshake and what to include in your Handshake profile. You will set up your profile the first time you log in to the platform; you can update this thereafter and it is recommended you do so to keep your profile up-to-date for employers.
